that caught fire. you can see behind us just four or five homes totally leveled. fire crews not doing anything over there. a few minutes ago we heard a very loud explosion. we didn't know what it was. turned out to be this white station wagon, some kind of car explosion. that's another thing crews out here have to deal with. we are right next to what we think was ground zero. you can see everything is completely leveled. to give you an idea how hot this fire was, want to show you this. look at the back of this white volkswagen, the heat just melting this taillight. if you want to the front, you can see that the explosion caused the concrete to travel a great distance. just lying here on the windshield of this car, a big chunk of it. one of the big problems firefighters are dealing with is the wind. you can see it on this crime scene tape blowing around and see it with this smoke. that's helping to spread the flames. and the wind has died down. that is the good news. hopefully fire crews will soon be able to get an upper hand on this blaze. the latest figure we were told is 50% containment. som

that would apply for the one set on wednesday. >> understate law the department of crepes said it would use a three-drug procedure in regulations they spent years creating. those regulations have force of law and so judge fogel is saying you can either have your rights unthe constitution protected and understate law protected but not both. it's completely unfair. >> reporter: the same judge, judge jeremy fogel, was the one who halted executions in california in 2006. it claimed procedures for the three drug cocktail aimed at killing the condemned was not clear, and the death chamber was too dimly lit to monitor the procedure. but the judge is now allowing the executions to proceed because of a supreme court ruling in 2008 which upheld lethal injections in the state of kentucky and because ohio and washington state have been using 1-drug executions for the past year with no reported problems. that even as fogel presides over a lawsuit challenging the same procedure. brown has filed an appeal with the ninth circuit court. what they plan to do if all stays of execution fail. craig devro, san q

've been this is an enormous fire because. if you take a look at south of us, that's where the fire is going on there, it's a neighborhood that's being protected by firefighters. they're there, just in case these keupbdz winds shift again and right now they're blowing from us towards the fire, so i would say away from we are now. in a few minutes that we've been here, we've seen the flames brought down quite a bit. you can't really see flames from where we're standing at this point but certainly this is in a very tens situation in this neighborhood and frankly a lot of the neighbors have been out, trying to simply lend a hand to the police, firefighters, they've been directing traffic, telling people to stay out where they shouldn't be going, keeping cars away from the emergency personnel area where they're trying it get. this is a neighborhood on guard, watching out for each other, watching out for the emergency personnel as well. when we first got out here, as i was telling you, when we first got out here, the flames were quite a bit bigger. walk to your left here and look at that

always gets us there... ... sometimes it just takes us a little longer to get back. ♪ a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza back up to the macarthur maze. there was an oil spill on the upper deck after a bus lost its transmission. that's why we are so badly back up for this necommute. the meter and lights were turned on a very close to 6:00 a.m. you can see things are backed up let switchover showing you traffic trucker interstate 80 is backed up all along the glory short freeway. we are seeing indications of of back up in macarthur maze. let's back that out a bit you can see there ride coming down from the freeway is definitely slowing things. slow from children's hospital in the westbound direction. a big problem for this commute. you can see all approaches are born to be jammed for a while. let's take go look at another problem interstate 580 in the westbound direction the back up from 2 05 interchange through the altamont pass towards airway boulevard. that was where there was another spill. the traffic has moved much better through livermore. the problem is a back up reach

for joining us. i'm kristen sze. >> i'm eric thomas. topping our news, oakland police on the hunt for a gunman who shot a six-year-old child while she slept in her family's home overnight. theresa garcia's live from the oakland police department with more. theresa? >> this is definitely what you call violence and definitely anger anyone with a conscience at least. the oakland police have since left the home where the shooting happened early this morning. and now the investigators have to find out who so boldly shot up this house while the entire family was asleep inside. now you've got a six-year-old girl recovering after being struck by a bullet inside her home. ten people live here but the only one hit was the six-year-old asleep in her room with her parents. two or three gunmen on the street opened fire shooting about two dozen rounds into the house on seminary avenue and 16th street. >> we observed several rounds up to about 25 were fired into the rear of the home. we learned from the family everyone was inside asleep. >> i heard the gunshots, and then i started -- i heard my mom crying an

was shot and spoke to a man who lives across the street. he told us he heard 30 shots from what he thought was an assault rifle. and says he hit the ground immediately. it was around 10:30 last night in the 1200 block of 87th avenue. after getting up and making his way outside, he saw family members running out of that house, screaming, they shot mama. police are not releasing any information about the woman. but the neighbor told us, he thought she was in her 50s, living with her large family, along 87th avenue. the man said he had just moved into the neighborhood and hadn't had any problems. so this scared him. paramedics did take the woman to the hospital. and as i mentioned, she's in critical condition. we're live at police headquarters this morning. notice arrests so far. but again, we are waiting for an update from police. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> police in oakland are looking for two other leads. they both took place about 9:45 last night. and one of the shootings was deadly. the fatal shooting happened near a gunfight at 45th and international. polic

joins us with more. good morning, jade. >> reporter: i want to start off with traffic, because there are nearby schools and i just spoke with a spokeswoman with the contra costa water district and crews wanted to make sure there was still one lane open right here at morello so drivers could get through. so that's for drivers and their commute. as far as the water main break, you can see that crews are still pumping water out of this hole. it's to maintain pressure so that workers can get inside and make their repairs this morning. crews have been out here since last night. won't you take a look at some of the video we shot when we arrived here. crews have been out here since 7:30 last night. that's when the water district started receiving calls. an 8-inch water main burst. it was the second in a week along the same line. and that spokeswoman, i told you that i spoke to, jennifer allen, just arrived about 15 minutes ago. she told me that crews worked overnight to restore water service to 40 households and i spoke to one neighbor this morning. he told me his water was restored a
